Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, wheat germ, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, molasses, and melted butter until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined.
  5. Lightly flour your countertop and turn the dough out, knead briefly and shape into a 7-inch circle.
  6. Score a cross on top of the dough.
  7. Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 15 minutes at 425°F (220°C), then reduce to 375°F (190°C) and bake for another 30-35 minutes.
  8. Remove from the oven, wrap in a clean towel, and allow to cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
