Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract and gradually add the all-purpose flour until a thick dough forms.
  4. Press half to two-thirds of the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for about 20 minutes until lightly golden.
  5. In a saucepan, melt the caramel candies with the heavy cream over low heat, stirring until smooth.
  6. Pour the melted caramel over the baked crust and sprinkle coarse sea salt over it while it's warm.
  7. Crumble the remaining dough over the caramel layer evenly without pressing it down.
  8. Bake again for an additional 25-30 minutes until the topping is set and lightly golden.
  9. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan, then chill in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours before slicing.
